| After three years in the making, Washington welcomes
the arrival of The Hotel Monaco, a restoration of the
Tariff Building, a grand Washington landmark, built circa 1839. The Monaco is
ideally located in the heart of downtown, within walking distance to the MCI Center,
the Convention Center, Ford's Theater, the new International Spy Museum and across
the street from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro station.
This magnificent building covers a city block, and is fashioned after an Italian
Renaissance palazzo, resplendent with rich white Corinthian marble columns. Dazzling
interior design integrates the best of 20th century designers to give the hotel
its signature look. The elegant antique bureau reception desk is conspicuous under
a pair of Venetian chandeliers. The lobby is flanked by two impressive marble
stairwells that lead you to imperial corridors that accommodate outstanding guest
rooms. Modernity is an alternative if, of course you prefer to take an elevator
to your room.
Guest rooms are unique in their wideness and depth, some with over 12 foot
vaulted ceilings. Specialty "Tall Rooms" are
customized for tall people, featuring extra-long beds, high ceilings and raised
showerheads. The rooms are hip and sassy in their stylish modernism. Comfortable
workspace, cordless phone, two line data ports and complimentary
high-speed internet access are in-room amenities that are ideal for business
travelers. Pet friendly is the Kimpton Group motto,
so pets can check-in, in-style.
Poste - Moderne Brasserie, is open daily for breakfast,
lunch and dinner and features contemporary American cuisine prepared from an exhibition
kitchen. The dining room is seductively appealing, with an emphasis on comfort.
There is also a private room that seats 14 and seasonal outdoor dining is served
on the terrace. The fashionable bar and lounge features modern cocktails and a
bar menu. 24 hour room service is also available.
